The Dragon Boat Festival is called Duan Wu Jie in Chinese. Jie means festival. The other alternative name is Double Fifth Festival because it is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month of the Chinese calendar. The festival is a traditional holiday originating in China. Some of the activities for this festival include eating rice dumplings (ZongZi), drinking wine, and racing dragon boats. Chinese people also hang icons of ZhongKui (a figure of Chinese mythology regarded as as a vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings), hang the cuttings of the plants Calamus and Chinese Mugwort on their front doors to keep out evil spirits, take long walks, and wear perfumed medicine bags.
