It makes perfect sense to me. How do the eyes know how long they should grow? There must be some kind of mechanical feedback while eyes trying to focus. As human being living in modern world we watch too much close up stuff that give wrong feedback to the eyes to grow longer than they should be. Just pressing it back would help.
