one is to remember the glorous history associated with the name of Peking before 1949. the other is to preserve its allerged independence, or rebellion, from the central government because it refuses to adopt the correct Pinyin.

Both reflects lack of confidence, for its reputation has to rely on the name itself, not the actual work the U has done.

But admittedly, BJU or PKU has done pretty well compared with other Chinese Us.
